New 7 Wonders of the World

hile browsing through the internet I ha
ve found an interesting article in wiki, the new Seven Wonders of the World. I think this is a great topic to share with you guys. According to the article this is a project to find and update a new 7 wonders of the world that can replace the ancient findings. Before we start to the new 7 wonders, lets me introduce the ancient wonders. You guys may have been heard of them or may be not. Let me introduce them one by one.

The Great Pyramid of Giza

It was built 2560 BC and believed to be the tomb of the fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu.It was constructed over 20 years of period.

The hanging garden of Babylon

They were built in the ancient city Babylon which presently known as Al-Hillah, Babil, in Iraq. It was built by Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar II around 600 BC. This ancient wonder cannot be seen physically due to it destruction by the earthquake throughout the years. Figure is just the illustration by the artist.

The statue of Zeus at Olympia

It was sculptured by the Greek sculptor Phidias around 432 BC in the Temple of Zeus, Olympia, Greece. It was destroyed by Caligula the Roman Emperor.

The Temple of Artemis

The Temple of Artemis which is also known as the Temple of Diana that was built for the Greek’s goddess was completed around 550 BC in Turkey. Now the only remainder of this Temple is its pillars and foundation. The figure is the model of the temple in Miniature Park, Istanbul, Turkey.

Mausoleum of Halicarnassus

This is the tomb of Mausolus, a satrap in Persian Empire and Artemisia II of Caria, his wife and sister. It was built between 353 and 350 BC. Figures is an illustration by Marten Hermskerk and the remaining of the tomb. This Tomb was built in Halicarnassus, presently known as Bodrum, Turkey.

Colossus of Rhodes

The Colossus of Rhodes was a statue of the Greek god Helios, erected in the city of Rhodes on the Greek island of Rhodes by Chares of Lindos between 292 and 280 BC. Before its destruction it is the tallest statue that stood over 30 meters high. Figure shown is the drawing of this statue.

The Lighthouse of Alexandria

The Lighthouse of Alexandria, also known as the Pharos of Alexandria, was a tower built between 280 and 247 BC on the island of Pharos at Alexandria, Egypt to guide sailors into the harbor at night. With a height variously estimated at between 393 and 450 ft (120 and 140 m), it was for many centuries among the tallest man-made structures. Figure is an illustration of the lighthouse.

Among all of the seven wonders of the ancient world, only one that still remains, that is the Great Pyramid of Giza. Will it be one of the new 7 wonders of the world? Well let me continue and see whether the great Pyramid of Giza still listed.

In order to find or announce the new 7 wonders of the world, votes have been collected throughout the world to choose 7 from 21 top listed wonders of the world. The winners of the new 7 wonders of the world are as followings.

  3. Christ the Redeemer
  4. Coliseum
  5. Great Wall of China
  6. Machu Picchu
  7. Petra
